PERSONAL INFORMATION:
- Real Name: Kyle Rayner
- Alias: Green Lantern
- P.O.B: Coast City, California
- Occupation: Fairly successful comic book artist
- Marital Status: Single
- Face Claim: Will Estes
SOCIAL INFORMATION:
- Current Social Status: Hero
- Current/Known Associates: J.R. Sanford
- Current/Known Adversaries: Sinestro
ABILITIES:
The obvious one is his Green Lantern power ring, which gives him the ability to create constructs of hard light, fly and some other stuff. He can also recite the Green Lantern oath to boost his powers for a short time.
STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES:
On the one hand, he's pretty much invulnerable, with his ring only limited by his imagination. Given his job, it's fairly active, which certainly isn't helping. On the other hand, he grew up without a father, so he's got some daddy issues. Namely, he gets a wee depressed when he sees a happy family with a father.
BACKGROUND:
Kyle's father was a CIA agent named Gabriel Vasquez, who did deep cover work rather often. Gabriel met his wife, Maura, when he was operating under the codename "Aaron Rayner". He married her and had a son, whose name I'm sure you can guess. Gabriel continued to operate, but when Kyle was very young, his work began to threaten Maura and baby Kyle, so to protect them, he cut all traceable ties with them, leaving Kyle to grow up without a father. Maura began working double shifts so she could support both herself and Kyle.
When Kyle went into school, he discovered his talent for drawing. As he went through school, he honed and refined this talent, and when he was in 9th grade, he discovered what he wanted to do with his life when he found an old comic book and decided he wanted to draw comics. He began drawing in this style, drawing comics for the school newspaper for the remainder of high school, then continuing for the college newspaper at UC Los Angeles. He gained some fame among the student body for his talent, and began sending some samples to the comic publishers nearby in his senior year, in hopes of getting a job offer. Unfortunately, all he got were rejections. He graduated with his major in graphic design and began freelancing, teaming up with a buddy from high school, John Resnik Sanford, or J.R., to write their own comics. J.R. did the story, and Kyle did everything else.
When Kyle was 24, 3 years after graduating, he was walking home from dinner when he witnessed... something crash nearby. He double-timed it over there to see what looked like some form of alien escape pod, with a very badly wounded alien inside. Kyle tried to save him, but the alien stopped him, telling him he was gonna die anyway. The alien gave him his ring and Lantern, telling him he has to go to Oa and become the Green Lantern. Then he died. Kyle tossed the lantern in the closet but kept the ring on because he thought it looked cool. A few days later, he got into a bar fight, but managed to take it outside. His powers chose that exact moment to activate, and he clobbered his attacked with a green baseball bat that had magically appeared in his hand. He was then encased in a bubble of green light and spirited off to Oa. There, he was told what exactly a Green Lantern is, and given some training in the art of ring-slinging, right before Sinestro and the Yellow Corps decided to mount an attack on Oa. Kyle fought bravely, kicking the crap out of 2 Yellow Lanterns. After that, he was sent back to Earth to patrol his sector, and has been for about a year at this point, mostly dealing with stuff in space and leaving the Earthbound stuff for the myriad heroes already down there.
