Clouds filled the night sky hiding the light of the full moon that hung over Gotham City in the distance. This was the last part of the contract he had to full fill. And the most extreme request of the three, but Vordigan had no concerns when it came to what a contract required. The Brotherhood of Scion held no life as precious and no contract or condition was beyond their means as far as they were concerned.
Vordigan stayed in the shadows of the large maple tree across the street from his targets house. It was a nice house small green shrubs around the perimeter coming together at a small black iron gate at the end of a stone walkway leading to the front door of the two story white house. A two car garage was off to the right of the house where his targets car was at the moment. The WayneTech scientist had gotten home a couple hours before Vordigan had taken up residence next to maple tree across the street.
He had stood there in his black hooded vest and black pants watching the man and his family through the windows waiting for them to go to bed so that he could make his entry into the house and make his kills while they slept. He would have to by pass their alarm system which would be easy. He had taken the time to find out about it like he had with LexCorp.
It was a good security system for keeping out wannabe burglars and the crooks that thought they were pros. But Vordigan was neither. When the system was activated it automatically locked all windows and doors with dead bolts until it was disarmed or the company sent a signal to open them in case of emergency. But the most important thing he had learned was that the system would act like it was off when the primary was cut but in reality it had a back up with a silent alarm linked right to the Gotham Police station along with an alarm inside the house to alert its occupants.
Easy enough for him to bypass by linking the small data pad he had to the back up system disabling it before cutting the the primary and then he would be slip inside and end the lives of the occupants like his contract required.
Vordigan continues to watch the WayneTech scientist whose name was apparently Alan Brody not that it matter laugh with his wife and small son in the living room as some show played on the television. The time seemed to slowly tick by before two hours had passed and the family finally turned off the TV and got up. Slowly but surly the lights in the house went out one by one entering it into Vordigan's world. A world of the unseen the world of shadows.
Vordigan waited another half an hour to give the occupants time to fall asleep before looking up and down the street to make sure they were empty. Then he stepped out from the shadows of the maple tree and walked across the street. He crouched as he got next to the hedges made his way along them to the side of the house. He had also been warned about the motion sensitive lights in the front yard.
As he got to the left side of the house he stood up and hopped over the hedge and pulled out a small flashlight before he began to look for the security systems box that he had been told was located there. After a minute or two he located the small box underneath the window that led into the kitchen on that side of the house. He popped it open and surveyed the wires before placing his small flashlight in his mouth and pulling a data pad with a wire that had a small clamp on the end of it attached to the side and set it on the window seal above the box before returning to the belt and pulling a pair of wire cutters out.
He slowly inspected the wires of the system locating the blue one for the primary system. He continued to look and then saw the two black wires for the grounding, at least that is what the company wanted someone to believe. He brought the cutters to the left most black wire an carefully used them to strip the black cover off exposing the wires underneath. Vordigan sits down the clipper and grabs the data pad and press a few buttons before clipping it to the exposed wires. He waits a minute or two before the screen lights up and he hits one more button activating the dummy program.
He rests the small data pad in the box and grabs the clippers and cuts the primary cord to the system. He watches the data pad for a second and sees the words program running pop up for a second followed by the sound of the window latch in front of him pop loose before the screen goes dark again. The signal code the data pad had sent to turn off the system had been worth the money it seems. He removes the flashlight from his mouth and slides it and the clippers back in his belt before closing the system box.
Vordigan reaches forward grabbing the edge of the window and slowly lifts it up all the way and then hoists himself up and slides in carefully and silently. He turns back around and slides the window closed just in case one of the occupants walks into the kitchen while he is busy and doesn't notice an open window that should be locked and secured.
Vordigan moves quickly and silently through the house to the stairs leading to the second floor where the family slept. Like LexCorp he had gotten his hands on the plans for the house and knew the lay out to allow him to be as efficient as he could. The kills would be the easy and quick part. What he had to do after wards was what would take the time.
Vordigan climbed the stairs to the top where the hall turned left and right. To the right was the child's bedroom and to the left was Alan Brody and his wife. Vordigan turned right and head to the child's room. He reached down to his hip and pulled his crossbow. The door was open slightly probaly because the kid was scared a monster would get and tonight that fear was valid.
Vordigan slowly pushes the door open and enters the room closing the door behind him. After a minute or two the door opens back up and Vordigan walks out reloading his cross bow before continuing down the hall towards Alan Brody and his wife's room. Pictures of the family line the wall to Vordigan's right as he makes his way towards the closed bedroom door.
Vordigan reaches forward and slowly turns the handle opening the door and steps in. As he does Alan Brody sits up wiping the sleep from his eyes and trying to focus on the door
"Ben whats wrong you have another..."
Before he can finish Vordigan looses the bolt from his crossbow into Brody's chest and quickly reloads. Brody gasps for a second looking down at the bolt in his chest and lets out a cry startling his wife out of her sleep. She sits up quickly only to go right back down on the bed as Vordigan's bolt from the crossbow hits her in the forehead.
Alan Brody's eyes are wide as he holds at the bolt lodged in his chest and looks at Vordigan
"wh...wh...why?"
Are his last words before the trauma and suffering of the arrow in his heart finally ends. Vordigan walks over to the two and grips hold of the crossbow bolts and rips them from the bodies. This time they were not to be left. No whoever had ordered this contract had something else planned instead and now it was time for Vordigan to get on with it.
(Time Lapse 2 hours)
It had taken him to hours to carry the three bodies down stairs and place them in the living and arrange things like his contract had required. Who ever found these bodies and stay in the room for more then five seconds and hold down their lunch he would probaly have to offer them a position in the Brotherhood of Scion.
He had been informed by the Brotherhood that his first hit on the Queen's Industries security chief had briefly made it on the news as an accident with a small mention of the young man being a bad mugging. And his obvious hit at LexCorp was being blamed on someone called The Archer. He could only imagine what they would say about this one. The contractor had requested that he make it look some ungodly gruesome psychopath had gotten to this family and he had done it.
Vordigan walked out of the living room and towards a door leading down stairs into the basement where Alan Brody kept his home lab. But more importantly as Vordigan found out his large rock collection.
Vordigan descended the stairs into the basement flicking on the light as he did. At the bottom of the stairs he saw tables with microscopes large cylinders and various other things that anyone without a science degree probaly could name let alone know what they did. That stuff wasn't what interested him though. It was the display cases off to his right with all the rocks that were of great interest for him.
Vordigan walks over and begins scanning the various cases. Each one listed as to the name of the rock. He sees quartz, obsidian, pumice, sovite, rhyolite and then the one he was looking for a small odd shaped crystal listed as unknown. Vordigan reaches into his vest pocket and pulls out another leather draw string pouch before lifting the display case lid. He reaches down and picks up the crystal sliding it into the pouch and places it inside his next to the one he had taken from LexCorp. He starts to close the lid and stops noticing a familiar green rock sitting in the spot next to the crystal. It was labeled "Smallville Meteorite"
Vordigan had never been to Smallville but he had seen a rock like it before in the hands of the former Master Archer of the Brotherhood of Scion. He had conducted a test with it and forged some arrows out of the rock. Turned out it was stronger then metal when refined and could go clean through a man and metal. He had seen it first hand when the Master Archer tested out the arrows.
Vordigan along with Morgan had been his protege. Both being groomed to be the next Master Archer not that Morgan stood a chance. The longer they were under the Master Archer the more Vordigan heard Morgan and the others brothers talk about how it was time to retire the Master Archer. Which was true he had let his skills decay horribly.
So one day when he and Morgan were called in to receive a contract from their master Vordigan pulled his crossbow and fired as the Master Archer turned around to hand them the scrolls. The Arrow hit him square in the heart. No look of shock crossed his face only that of pride. Vordigan had shown he was the most skilled and at that moment he had showed he was the one who had the fortitude to take over.
Ripples had run through the Brotherhood of Scion from his actions most of them started by Morgan who felt cheated but all the same their laws said he was the new Master Archer. He had taken those green arrows from the Master Archer as his trophy.
Vordigan shakes his head knocking himself out of the memory before reaching down and taking the rock and sliding it into his vest. He removes the labels from the display for the crystal and meteorite before lowering the lid and making his way up the stairs and hitting the light. He heads back to the kitchen and opens the window climbing out onto the lawn. He leaves the window open and opens the power case and unhooks the data pad triggering the silent alarm. The places the data pad back on his belt and hopes over the hedges and makes way back to the front before crossing the street and disappearing back into the shadows
